Let’s try this again

I’ve changed the blog’s theme, and with that I will really exert effort to post as regularly as I did before.  It’s no secret that I’ve been on a blogging slump for more than half a year now.  My thoughts and stories have turned into abbreviated versions in the form of Tweets and Facebook status updates.  While I loved the more intimate and instant interactivity, it has finally hit me that I DO miss blogging!

And so I return to my original online playground. 2-3 blog entries per week is the immediate goal – beginning Sunday, February 14.  Yes, the day of love, and it’s about time that I go back to a great love – writing.

Sorry, blog

I’m currently a neglectful blogger.  My blogging time has been eaten up by other things – such as new online drug Twitter and a steadily growing pile of unread books – not counting Tin’s library, which I will soon raid.  Add to that the undue stress at work.  Let’s just say that someone forgot the “design” half of the job title. And it’s the more crucial half!  I hope to get my blogging rhythm back soon.  I really need that, the way things are going.  I’m just glad that other areas of offline life are going well.

In other news…I’m getting the new iPod Nano as a just-because present from my cousin!  Her parents are coming over from New York in October, and they’re bringing it with them.  The video cam, voice recorder and FM radio totally sold me on it.  It’s now a perfect travel must-have.

The cousin mentioned above also told me an endearing story about our nephew.  Jollibee New York opened several months ago, and is still getting long lines until now.  Our nephew was born here, but moved to the States when he was about 10 years old.  He now goes to Cornell University.  On his Winter break, he, along with his Pinoy Cornell friends and his brother, stood in line for 2 1/2 hours in freezing temperature just to get their Jollibee fix! This is an endearing story for me because my nephew is such a, in colloquial terms, “conyo” kid.  I never imagined that he would fall in line that long for a Jollibee meal.  It’s really nice to know that he still has that kind of Filipino-ness.

My cousin, on the other hand, still couldn’t find the patience for the long lines in spite of her endless craving for sweet spaghetti.  This is the cousin who asked for sugar and added it to her spaghetti while dining in a five-star hotel. How the waiters were horrified, haha!  However, she wrote something in her email that really made me laugh:  “Pero pag may Max’s Fried Chicken na dito, makiki-pila na din ako!!!”  I could sooo imagine her making a beeline for it first thing in the morning. 😀

Well, that takes care of this week’s blogging.  Hope to be back sooner than I’ve been doing so these past few months.

Yes, I am now tweeting.  There’s a Twitter widget on the sidebar.  It took a while for me to get the hang of it, but now, darn it, it’s starting to get addictive!  I forced myself to study and use Twitter because it’s part of my job (nice, huh? 😀 ).  My boss has been asking me forever what makes it tick, and for some time I was also as puzzled as he is – I couldn’t find enough motivation to log in and update regularly.  Well that stopped yesterday.

Most of my friends lead analog lives, with email and Facebook their only concessions to digital connectivity, so there goes that purpose for my Twitter account.  I use it primarily for stalking, haha!  Kidding…sort of.  I’m using it as sort of a feed reader to keep updated on all my favorites.  Of course it would be nicer if more of my favorite friends would tweet.

My boss still thinks it’s a fad, and some part of me agrees with him, but let’s see.

White as Milk

That’s my new blog theme. After almost a year of red (except for a brief switch for the Christmas season), I’ve decided to go very light and clean.  I’m really loving this new template, even more than the previous one.  I think white is my new red.

Back to Red

No more snow, so it’s back to my favorite red template.  Happy to stick to this one!

Temporary change of template…

…to make the snow look better.

I’m really loving the move to WordPress. More than a year ago, this blog was on another host, but I moved over to WordPress primarily because of its nicer themes. I didn’t really review all the features before I moved. Now, I’m really enjoying blogging here. And now they have this great new theme – Monotone. It’s best for photo blogs because it analyzes the uploaded photo and creates a background complementary to the color scheme of the image. It’s a chameleon theme, so there’s a different background for every page! The archives are also presented in a different manner – like a photo album, with thumbnails of the uploaded images. You’ll only get the full effect of this template on a photo blog. And so…

I’ve created a photo blog! I can’t really let this cool template go to waste now, can I?  It’s still a work in progress, and I’ll write about it again when I’ve fixed everything.

Blog Update

In keeping with the season, I’ve changed my template…again!  It’s also a tribute to one of my all-time favorite drinks.  I’ve also created a new page.   It’s a post about my major in College – Organizational Communication – which I wrote more than a year ago.  It has somehow generated a number of quality comments, making that part of the post seem like a mini-discussion board, and I thought it would be helpful for other site visitors who would like to know more about Orcom.  It’s also nice how fellow UP Manila Orcom alumni/current students have come together through that post.  As I wrote on the page, I’ll be updating it each time a new comment comes in.

Happy birthday, blog

Today is this blog’s first birthday.  Technically, I started blogging around July 2006, but I ported over some of the entries from my previous blog to this one and chose to maintain this blog on February 5, 2007.  This date also happens to be my mom’s death anniversary, but that one is pure coincidence.

Once in a while, I browse through my previous blog and it’s interesting to see the development and the twists and turns of my blog.  I really am an anything under the sun blogger.  I guess it also reflects the way that I usually describe myself – a human mass of contradictions.  Just look at what I wrote in my Friendster profile: a city rat but loves the countryside; a homebody but can’t wait to get on the next plane, train, bus, boat, whatever; a shy chatterbox.  I’ll never be one of those people who always react the same way, think and feel about things the same way, and do things the same way…and the same goes for this blog.

When I read my first few blog posts, I realized how much of a blogging newbie I was back then…or maybe even until now.  I never really cared about being one of the top blogs.  When I started blogging, I just wanted some place to write where people would surely read what I’ve written.  Sometimes I write with an audience in mind, and sometimes I write just what I feel like writing since my blog also doubles as my personal journal and a way to update friends about what’s going on in my life.  Some of the stuff I’ve written here may be inconsequential to the general public, but then again, you never know when it may actually prove informative to some person out there.  Once of these days I’ll write a post about the interesting search terms that have lead people to this blog.  Offhand, one of the most popular is ‘pick-up lines’.  Hmm…when the geeky mood hits me I just might make a simple study profiling my blog and its readers based on the search terms.  I don’t know if it makes sense, but it’s fun anyway.

…by the blogging bug is my friend, Minmin.  Explore a new realm, she will.  Ok, enough of the Yoda-speak.  Nagti-trip lang, haha! 😀

Welcome to the blogosphere, Min!  Actually, I kinda forced the bug on her, heehee!  Tutored her about blogging (Oh, no!) like I tutored her on some other things…hmmhmm.  She’s waaayyy saner, more sensible and more mature than I am, so maybe that will reflect in her posts as she goes along.  Cheers to your new blog! 🙂
